Most Taiwanese don’t think of themselves
as being  a part of China
and  will likely  never accept unification

Taiwan can't  formally reject  China's claim
       -  because it would amount to
             a formal declaration of independence,
                     and  precipitate an immediate war

Different interpretations of  international law
              label Taiwan's status as
                   “sovereign” or  “undetermined”
   U.S. policy merely acknowledges
Beijing’s claim to Taiwan,  nothing more
       -  And  calls for a peaceful solution
It is best to  accept things as they are
and  cement the status quo as true
U.S. Need Not Change
                          Taiwan/China Policy
